The Therapeutic and Vaccine Research program conducts clinical studies across a range of infectious diseases, with a particular focus on therapies for HIV and its complications including cardiovascular disease and cancer. Additional areas of research focus include influenza, human papillomavirus, and other oncogenic (cancer-causing) viruses.
Our trials assess the real world effectiveness of new treatments and therapeutic strategies, and also support laboratory studies to better understand the underlying mechanisms of disease causation and treatment response. Studies we’ve led have been instrumental in defining the current standard treatment for HIV globally. We are also leaders in establishing a new generation of trials focussing on optimising HIV treatments for resource limited settings, and reducing the long term health impacts of HIV worldwide.
